10. DUAL CARRIAGEWAYS.
'THE HAPPIEST DRIVER IS HE WHO REMEMBERS EVERY INCH OF EVERY MILE'.
Dual carriageways are the best and safest type of road on which to enjoy motoring and only are they superseded by motorways. Using the mirror is important and how frequently do you use your mirror? At what intervals?
If and when traffic is light, travel on the right of the carriageway especially when passing side roads, cross roads and traffic lights. Reduce the risk of being hit in the side. By continually 'reading the road' it becomes obvious when a vehicle is waiting to enter upon the carriageway; it is courteous allowing the waiting driver to make an early move instead of blocking his path.
Always be aware of the blind spot behind and always glance over your shoulder before overtaking. Always.
An important occasion when an intermittent signal is necessary is when travelling on the right of a dual carriageway, intending to turn right at the next intersection: it is imperative to attract the attention of traffic fast closing the gap behind you. The objective is slowing down traffic behind, a driver who has mis-judged his speed. Always use the flasher first - followed by the brakes, never vice versa.
Think of the in-competence of other road users, who we must avoid.
'A GOOD DRIVER SPENDS MUCH OF HIS TIME THINKING FOR OTHER DRIVERS'.
