'NO THOUGHT, NO CAR, NO INTEREST - NO HOPE'
Any driver, contemplating the purchase of a car and prior to parting with hard earned cash, should have a pre-conceived thoughts about the special features which s/he will like to see included in the design. A 'shopping' list might be compiled by the more discerning owner. Quality and reliability will be top of most lists.
The British, new car market is dominated by the company fleet car purchase, which is likely to keep the price high when the cost can be off-set against tax. Is this system correct or tax wasting? Because of this situation, many drivers are driving cars not of their choice. Will they part with their own money for this product, probably not. In consequence, the British public have to be content with a Japanese family car, a French 'run-about' and executive transport made in Germany.
What people have mis-giving about are rear vision and wing mirrors, a bumpy ride, because of our deplorable road surfaces, head lights and dash-board design plus boot space. They like the feeling of safety, like owning a 'tank', whilst not wishing to exercise safety when driving. The public experience problems like cleaning carpets and upholstery, access to the back seat and cramped leg space. Fuel consumption is important, as it must be, thanks to our ever increasing taxes. Nevertheless, crisp performance is nice.
It is interesting hearing of mechanical faults. Major problems beset the transmission, including the clutch and gear-box. Is this a case for revising on heel & toe?
What is interesting is that people have scant opinions on steering, handling, acceleration, suspension, braking, the controls and, above all, driver comfort. The most important details are ignored! Neither do they contemplate the importance of a fire extinguisher!
Perhaps all a driver desires is a 'tank', with easily cleaned upholstery and full of gadgets fighting crime?
'All that is bad on the road is eventually revealed'.
