5. DESIGN.
'SOMETHING EVERY DRIVER SHOULD TAKE CARE OF IS THEIR CAR'.
In spite of government intervention, motor car design has improved immeasurably over the years and continues so to do. Bad cars have disappeared, almost, even if seat design continues to have its head-quarters at Stonehenge. Improvements have brought extra speed which, not necessarily, can drivers accommodate. With all the new gadgets and safety devices, responsibility is being taken away from drivers. Again it is emphasised that if a driver is sitting in a seat only on a chassis, exposed to all the elements, no doubt s/he will drive more safely. Cars which steer, brake and control themselves are detrimental to road safety.
The one detail that a driver must not be, s/he must not be blind! Applying the Gold, Silver & Bronze rules are essential and these skills are beyond the capabilities of designers. It is the driver's eyes which hold the key to success. Indeed they are the best brakes too.
Nevertheless, successive governments have achieved the distinction of decimating the World's major car manufacturer, the U.K., into a Nation devoid of a manufacturing industry, except for specialist companies which are disliked like rotting manure. We have become 'merely labourers in our own house'.
Obviously the tremendous success of the 'internal combustion' engine has hindered propulsion design. Is the answer in solar, electric, micro-wave and/or wind energy?
On page 51 of 1288 is a design described as solar/fan power and the sooner we have a viable alternative the better. Paying a ransom at the petrol pumps is not the public's idea of fun and whatever happened to North Sea Oil? It is doubtful anybody has ever benefited one iota from a source of energy at our shores. What we have to remember is taxing petrol is easy and nasty!
'Learning is a trial, expertise is a struggle, 12% is an achievement'.
